For a lot of us 2016 has been a rough year.

At Christmas time we often reflect on the year that’s been, looking back at the good and the bad that has happened.

This year we lost a little of familiar faces and saw some terrible things happen around the world, and now Helen Mirren has summed up 2016 in a few fitting words.

Dame Helen has given a brutally honest review of the year that was while appearing on The Graham Norton Show, and if you had a tough year, you’ll probably agree with her words.

When asked by Norton to deliver a Christmas message, Dame Helen did it in fine form.

With her regal tone of voice, she gave a Queen-like Christmas message with a twist.

“Hello, at this time of celebration and togetherness we have the chance to reflect on the year gone by,” she said.

“And I think we can all agree that 2016 has been a big pile of sh*t.

“So my advice to you is to drink responsibly and be merry, have a very happy Christmas and above all, go see Collateral Beauty, out on Boxing Day.”

Earlier on the show Dame Helen, dressed is a playful leopard print dress, got a little cheeky with her Collateral Beauty co-star Will Smith.

Smith gave Norton a little slap on the bum, and Dame Helen didn’t want to miss any of the action.

As the audience laughed, she stood in front of Smith waiting for her turn!

If you haven’t seen the hilarious Christmas message, you can watch it below – it’s sure to give you a laugh this Christmas!
