Donald Trump almost one step away from becoming President of the United States

President Donald Trump is a sentence many of us never thought we’d say but it seems that the chances of that being reality are not as low as they used to be. In fact, if the latest news from the US is anything to go by, Americans are in for a very nerve-racking election.

Overnight, the remaining Republican candidate won the amount of seats he needs to become the official nominee for the 2016 US election. What this means is that for the first time in his many repeated attempts to be the president of America, Donald Trump is so very close.

Trump was put over the top in the Associated Press delegate count on Thursday by a small number of the party’s unbound delegates who told the AP they would support him at the national convention in July.

It takes 1237 delegates to win the Republican nomination and Trump has reached 1,238.

It was first laughed off as a ludicrous campaign by a billionaire buffoon but surprisingly Trump has fought off all 16 other Republican contenders.

Trump will not formally accept the party’s nomination until the delegates cast their votes on the convention floor in July.

Speaking at a news conference in Bismarck, North Dakota, Trump poked fun at Hillary Clinton’s inability to get delegates as quickly as he had.

“Here I am watching Hillary fight and she can’t close the deal,” Trump said.

Trump is up against historically high unfavourability ratings and faces immense challenges as he looks to broaden his appeal across the currently Democratic-siding USA.

Tell us, do you think Trump will win the election? Who will?
