Our furry friends are great company and usually are part of our family – and we’d do anything to protect them. While you may love buying products for your pets, there’s a certain group of products that are urgently being recalled amidst safety concerns.

According to a report published by the ACCC, the plug insert included with power supplies in PetSafe® brand and SportDOG® brand products, manufactured from January 2009 to January 2016 by Radio Systems Australia Pty Ltd have a manufacturing fault. This fault could cause them to break apart while being unplugged from a power socket.

These power supplies have been sold online and in pet stores across Australia and New Zealand with the following products:

Product description: The recall covers the plug insert included with power supplies in PetSafe® brand and SportDOG® brand products, manufactured from January 2009 to January 2016 by Radio Systems Australia Pty Ltd. The plug insert is the circular part (see photo) with the two prongs that attaches to the adaptor box to enable it to plug into power points. These power supplies have been sold online and in pet stores across Australia and New Zealand with the products listed in the attached Recall Notice.

What are the defects: Some of the plug inserts have a manufacturing fault that causes them to break apart while being unplugged from a power socket.

What are the hazards: The enclosure of the detachable plug portion can break and potentially expose live parts which can cause a dangerous electric shock.

What should consumers do: If you have one of the products manufactured between 2009 and 2016, it is critical that you do not attempt to unplug it. Consumers should call the Radio Systems hotline on 1800 890 783 (Australia), 0800 864 234 (New Zealand) or visit http://www.petplugrecall.com.au to receive important instructions and support to remove it safely, along with a replacement plug insert.
