16 major retailers urge customers to return multiple products due to fire hazard

If you have bought the Portable Air Conditioner Models GDC18RWA & GDC18RBA, you are urged to stop using it as there is the potential for the motor capacitor to overheat, leading to possible fire.

The product was sold nationally and retailers such as Harvey Norman, Good Guys, Betta Electrical, Bi Rite, Retravision, Radio Rentals, Clive Peeters, Clive Anthonys, Domayne, Joyce Mayne, Kambos, Porters, Rick Hart, AGL and Origin Energy have been listed.

If you purchased these items and know anyone who also bought them, please advise them to contact Glen Dimplex Australia on 1300 556 816 between 8.30am–5.00pm EST (Mon – Fri) or email [email protected] the product to be collected and replaced with an equivalent model.

At this point, a refund has not been mentioned in the recall announcement by the ACCC.

Product description: Portable Air Conditioner Models GDC18RWA & GDC18RBA

Identifying features: Affected serial numbers: Products manufactured in 2009 – 93800001-93801000, 94000001-94001068, 94600001-94601750 and 95000001-95001068.

The defects: If used for an extended duration there is the potential for the motor capacitor to overheat.

The hazards: Potential fire or smoke hazard if the product was to overheat.

Dates available for sale: 1st January 2009 – 31st December 2011
