Life can be chaotic, making it hard to keep your kitchen spotless. If you don’t have time for a big clean up, don’t worry – there are simple daily tasks you can do to keep things in order. Then, when you do have time for a deeper clean, you can move on to weekly and monthly tasks. Breaking down a big task of cleaning the kitchen into smaller tasks ensures you don’t get overwhelmed and that more work gets done.


  • Wipe down counter tops.
  • Clean as you cook so there’s a lesser mess for later.
  • Wipe spills from work surfaces, floors, and appliances.
  • Empty the bin.
  • Wash the dishes or run the dishwasher.
  • Sweep the floor.


  • Throw away any spoiled or out-of-date food items along with empty containers.
  • Wipe small appliances with a multi-surface cleaner to remove any stains, smudges or fingerprints and leave surfaces with an immediate shine. Don’t forget to lift up the appliances to wipe away any crumbs or dirt that have collected under them.
  • Wipe and scour the stovetop and remove any stuck on spills with a cloth.
  • Thoroughly disinfect the sink and remember to clean the dish drainer too.
  • Keep your bins smelling fresh with a weekly spray down.
  • Spray with an antibacterial and wipe the exterior and interior. Dry with paper towels before putting in a new bin liner.
  • Mop floors to give them a thorough clean and help to lift stains before they become deeply embedded.
  • Wash old tea towels and replace them to make sure they’re ready to be used again next week.


  • Throw away any items from your freezer that are no longer edible and take note of frozen food that needs to be eaten soon.
  • Wipe down fridge shelves and drawers, cleaning out anything you don’t need or won’t use.
  • Scrub the insides and run a cycle using only dishwasher detergent in an empty machine for an extra fresh smelling dishwasher.
  • Deep clean your oven. Sweep out any ash, scrub the racks, and wipe the exterior.
  • Remove items from the cupboards and wipe inside surfaces. Throw away any stale items before reorganising cupboards neatly.
  • Sort out any items in drawers including cooking utensils, pans, and so on. Throw away or donate any unneeded or broken items.

Thanks for the article–I do mine a little differently. ** It is advisable to take the dishcloth and t-towel to soak in a bucket of washing powder every morning (the bacteria that accumulates overnight would be enough to kill a person) Put fresh ones up every day. **I wipe out the fridge every Monday night, shopping Tuesday.**I wipe the benches as I go with the day to day chores, giving a thorough go through fortnightly. **I have a Convection Microwave (no bending, and it bakes/ steams/ grills–does everything ! ) It is on the counter top, to clean I just wipe it out after each use. **Floors are swept x 2 per week and mopped x 1 weekly.**The bins x 2 (recycling and normal waste) is taken out every night ( no kitchen smells for me !!)
