So where do you fit – in this world of ‘long livers’?

Nov 16, 2015

Do you have a plan for your future – do you keep fit and eat a good diet?

Reaching your 50s and 60s is a great milestone to a long and healthy lifestyle, but how you deal with it is very important. I remember a friend of a friend coming up to me at my 50th party.

“It’s all downhill from now – old chap” he calmly said. I was gobsmacked at such a broad statement. I enquired as to what was his reasoning for his remarks. His statement was apparently based on his own personal and negative life experiences.

Being a ‘glass half full’ personality myself I was interested to find out more about how quick I would slide down this hill!

After a couple of questions directed to my new found acquaintance it was clear our conversation was going nowhere. Although similar in age and background our lifestyles are poles apart he has a ‘victim’ mentality something that I simply cannot identify with – the kind of guy that never makes a mistake because ….he never makes a decision.

On top of his negative attitude, he dwelt on the negative past rather than a positive future – a real no-no for a clear plan for moving forward.

Being over 50 is one thing – being happily over 50 is your plan – or should be.

If you are reading this you are probably internet, or at least, social media savvy and that alone puts you at an advantage in the information world.

Whether we like it or not, the new ways of communication are here to stay so we should get good at using them.

With the world full of negative naysayers – and with all its faults, our world has never offered so much opportunity to those willing to go for it with the aid of fabulous technology.

So as an over 50 you have a distinct advantage of hindsight – let’s call it wisdom, and a world of international communication all you have to do is grab the opportunity!

Steve Jobs, Founder of Apple said it best:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – living with the results of other people’s thinking”. He continues…

“Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown your own inner voice.

And most important have the courage to follow your heart and intuition – they somehow already know what you truly want to become.

Everything else is secondary.

Stay hungry, stay foolish”

What a great message that is from this forward thinker! Do you agree?
