This week, Starts at 60 member Jennifer wrote to us, asking for some community advice:

Thinking of 5 days in Singapore. What to see? Not the usual tourist places. Orchid dome? What else? Must lunch at Raffles though. Any suggestions? Thank you

Can you help her? What is your advice?

The Starts at 60 writers team seek out interesting topics and write them especially for you.

  1. Singapore zoo. 1 day each, both night and day excursions. the rainforest and garden. shopping is NOT what it used to be. quite expensive now. Have dinner or at least a swim and drink at the top of the Marina Bay Sands (even better if you can afford to stay there!)

  2. Gardens by the Bay, Little India, Botanic Gardens for the orchids, Singapore Flyer for views over city and harbour. If just have to do Raffles do at night don’t waste your days. Great city enjoy

  3. Take train to the gardens and watch the weddings amongst the beautiful landscapes. Boat ride on the harbour. Stunning Golf Course. Have a look at the little Marks and Spencer shop on Orchard.

  4. Night zoo is a must do also Krangi War Memorial and Cemetary Chilli Crab somewhere along Clarke Quay. Orchard Road the red sightseeing bus love Singapore been a few times to fly in and cruise from there back to Australia.

  5. Save up & treat yourself to one night at The Marina Bay Sands Hotel , have a swim in the roof top pool, it will blow your mind. In the day time enjoy the best pizza you will ever eat at an Italian Restaurant at the shopping mall at the base of the restaurant. In the evening have a lovely meal at one of the same restaurants, then treat yourself to a chocolate treat at the top of the Marina Bay Sands followed by a drink looking at the lights of Fantastic Singapore. We loved it & it is worth every cent.

    • I Agree. The Marina Bay Sands Hotel is the best!!.. Also a visit to the zoo at night and the bird park. Last time we stayed at the MBS was when they were still building the gardens on the bay. Looking forward to staying there again.

  6. I lived in Singapore in the 70s and although things have changed must dos are Kranji War Memorial, Tiger Balm Gardens, Jurong Bird Park, Zoo etc etc but don’t forget to have a Singapore Sling. Shopping, shopping and Sentosa.
