Remembering Esme… with the passing of Joyce Jacobs

Sep 17, 2013

Joyce Jacobs, Australia’s favourite nosy neighbour, spinster Esme Watson from A Country Practice, passed away today aged 91.  Jacobs was well known in Australian television circles, but clearly best recognised for her twelve year role in the long running series where she was one of the pivotal characters, the nosy spinster neighbour that everyone would see regularly.  Joyce stayed with the show for its entire run, until it ended in 1993, a popular member of the cast.

According to news.com, Jacobs had been diagnosed with Parkinsons ten years ago and had been living in an aged care facility in Taren Point in Sydney where her funeral service will be held on Friday.  She kept closely in touch with many of the A Country Practice team, who joined her for 90th birthday celebrations just last year.

I used to look forward to A Country Practice every week, and remember Esme with great fondness… Were you A Country Practice watcher?  How do you remember Esme?
