Reliving Saturday night folk sessions

Around the grand old age of 15, I fell in love with folk music and frequented a folk club in Parramatta, NSW, called Pigalle. Pigalle was a coffee lounge on weekdays and a folk-music club on Friday and Saturday nights. The owner, Frank encouraged up-and-coming folk singers, some of whom went on to make successful careers in music, to hone their performing skills in front of an audience. We sat at long tables listening to the music, drinking coffee and solving the problems of the world. (Karen)

Folk music was just so powerful. It brought people together and gave friends a common passion and purpose.

They are still so well known today and are some of the best songs to come out of the ’60s and ’70s.
