Natural and simple air freshener recipe 15

Typical air fresheners are full of chemicals like benzaldehyde that are harmful to us and our little grandchildren. If you are worried about using chemically-based air freshener products then perhaps a DIY recipe is just what you need.

We have a recipe to make an organic version that ditches the toxic products. Plus, it is considerably cheaper than buying commercial brands.

Did we mention it is very easy to make?

  • 1 tablespoon of bi-carb soda
  • 1 tablespoon of cheap vodka
  • 5-6 drops of your favourite essential oil (lavender, tea tree, etc.)
  • Spray bottle

  1. In a small bowl mix the bi-carb soda, vodka and essential oil
  2. Pour the mixture into the spray bottle and then fill the rest of the bottle with water
  3. Shake the bottle for 30 seconds to ensure to baking soda dissolves in the water
  4. Use the freshener in any room: on couches, carpets, shoe or wherever is needed!

Will you try this tip? Do you have any other DIY air freshener methods to share?

  1. I’m sure there are products that don’t require propellants, the bicarb is good for absorbing odours either in the fridge or a sprinkle on the carpet a short while before a vacuum. I don’t need to tell you what to do with the vodka.

  2. I think I’d rather have the original stink!! I do use Glen20 in the bedroom, mostly on the mattresses when I strip back the beds, but I always open the window.

  3. Agree with Penny love fresh air, as soon as it’s warm enough I throw open the doors and windows I’m just starting to do that now as spring days are a little warmer here in Tasmania.

  4. Avoiding harmfull chemicals in all houshold and personal products was extremly difficult till now ,I,ve just found toxic chemical free products so now my challenge is to help 100 homes become toxic chemical free by June next year.
