Meeting someone organically like in the movies is all very well but in the real world itย can be a challenge and often result in heartbreak when you discover that you aren’t as compatible as you initially thought. With this in mind, technology has advanced rapidly and there are a vast number of online dating sites available to all ages.

A recent study conducted by Pew Research Centreย found that the percentage of people using online dating, aged 55-64 has doubled from 6% in 2013 to 12% in 2015.

Within that 12% of people the majority said they used websites rather than phone apps.

According to the research, 21% of 65+ aged people know someone who uses an online dating site and 20% of them know someone who has found a long term relationship from an online dating site.

Dating when you are 60 is very different to what it was like when you were in your 20’s. It can be scary and exciting and everything in between.

Try joining new groups or volunteer and you will find yourself surrounded by like minded individuals of both genders. You will find your confidence begin to build and this can be a better aphrodisiac than any miracle pill.

Probably the best advice is to not get overly attached to the first man or woman who you have a good interaction with. Approaching each situation with a lightness of heart and a sense of humour is critical.

Do you have any stories to share about your experiences with online dating apps?

I don’t believe you Leone, we all have our upper and lower limits and there are times when being smart is the best choice.

Well that’s struck you off the list Victoria, glad you told me before I shaved certain areas to make myself acceptable. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Not in that position, how would I know? Is it possible, yes I think so, problem would be finding a person that could put up with me.

I was made single before the internet, so friends tried to “fix me up”: disaster. Another talked me into a personal ad in the newspaper (remember them?): disaster. Then, one day, I turned around at work…

My daughter has this story too. I visited them today and I am so happy she “turned around at work”…..and there he was Prince Practical. Last year I was a very happy Mother of the Bride and his mother was a very happy Mother of the Groom.

Rather daunting to be honest trying to get back out on the dating scene, given up now happy to be single no stress worrying about trying to please someone – guess we do get set in our ways. But never say never to someone bumping into me lol- happy with my life.
