Ever been dying for a drink but realise you’re missing a bottle opener? Try this awesome hack next time you’re in a pickle!

Items needed:

  • 1 piece paper
  • bottle to be opened


  1. Fold the paper in half vertically, then continue to fold until the paper is approximately 2cm wide
  2. Fold the paper in half horizontally, to create a ‘V’ shape
  3. Place edge of paper against the bottle cap, and lever off like you would with a bottle opener!

  1. I still have one I “acquired” when I was in the Navy. Currently hosts my key ring. Has the name “Crown” on it. from pre 60s I’d say.

  2. Plenty of ways to get the top of a bottle. I’ve seen blokes use their teeth and one bloke I worked with years ago could actually put the bottle in his eye socket and lift the lid. Tobacco tin, edge of a cupboard, car door, pocket knife, flat stone and the list goes on.

  3. Wish we’d known this when we were young! Rod Faithful we tried the flat stone and broke the neck of the bottle, so all was not lost!
