Clean your dirty oven racks with this simple 4-step trick! 62

View Profile

With Christmas just over a month ago and plenty of mouths to feed since then, it’s likely your oven is looking a little worse for wear.

Don’t fork out $10-15 for a commercial oven cleaner – everything you need is in your cupboard!

This great tip will clean the racks overnight without harsh chemicals.

1. Place a towel at the bottom of your bathtub to prevent scratching.

2. Place oven racks on towel and fill the tub with very hot water until oven racks are covered.

3. Add 1/2 cup of powdered washing detergent or dishwashing liquid. You can add some lemon as well for scent. Swirl around soap until it dissolves and let sit for 4 hours or overnight.

5. With a non-abrasive sponge, simply wipe away the grime!

  1. I put a layer of alfoil in the laundry trough, sprinkle with soap powder and cover with hot water, leave to cold, couple hours at most, and wipe clean racks comes up like new. Important when doing this don’t put anything aluminium in it turns them black.

    • Yes I know but the stainless steel racks come out but not my stove top Hobbs, went black something to do with chemical reaction, the alfoil goes black too but it works a treat, just everything falls off.

  2. It’s better to use the laundry trough as it won’t scratch like the bath and it’s easier to clean than the bath afterwards. I’ve done this for years

  3. I do not have this problem, no oven at home just a Thai stove 🙂 ……but I do miss the oven

  4. Where does it cost $10 to 15 for oven cleaner? $3.50 from woollies . I hate using it but it does a good job. If you do it every 4 months or so doesn’t take long at all.
