Celebrity magician hurt after gun stunt “goes wrong”

The trick for a lot of magicians to make their tricks look dangerous while being perfectly safe.  That’s not to say that sometimes things don’t go wrong.  For instance, the magician that didn’t exactly pull off the “nail in the bag” trick on live TV.

However, that’s never really been the case for major celebrity magician David Blaine who has done some majorly dangerous stunts over his career without injury.  A new show has revealed however that one trick almost went tragically wrong and did injure the star.

For his show Beyond Magic, Blaine’s main attraction was his bullet catching trick that he first tried in 2010.  In the trick, Blaine uses a special mouth guard to hold a metal cup in his mouth.  A rifle with a laser pointer is aimed at the cup, and Blaine pulls the trigger with a rope.  The hope is that he catches the bullet in the metal cup.

In this show, the metal cup started to slide around in his mouth, but he proceeded with the trick anyway.  The gun went off and the mouth guard shattered.  As Blaine, who is lucky to be alive, explains in the narration of the show, “When the bullet struck the cup, there was a high-pitched ringing in my ears, and I felt an impact on the back of my throat.

“I was sure the bullet went right through my head and that I was dead.

“Suddenly I became aware of the pain and it brought me back. At that moment, I realised that the mouth guard had shattered again, and I was alive.”

Despite many calling for him to retire the trick, he still plans to use it in the future.

Many still claim that this is nothing more than a publicity claim however and some have released videos explaining how it’s been faked.
