Cellulite is never pleasant to talk about or even to see in the mirror. These fat deposits can show as ripples through the skin on your thighs, buttocks and arms, and can be hard to move even when you lose weight.

Many women (and men) have cellulite however many don’t know how simple it can be to smooth out your skin.

You may have cellulite due to hormones, poor diet and lifestyle choices, age and genetic predisposition, though there is one true cause: the accumulation of toxicity in your body.

Your body stores toxins in your fat to help minimise how much toxicity your vital organs are exposed to – the dimples and pockets of your cellulite are also storing toxins.

If you feel embarrassed or ashamed of your cellulite, you don’t have to – just follow these 8 natural remedies:

1. Drink more water

We know, we’re always telling you to drink more water but it’s true! The more water you drink, the more effective your body is at breaking down cellulite. Remember: there could potentially be a large amount of toxins stowed away in your fat cells so in order to flush these toxins out, it is vital to drink plenty of water.

2. Dry brushing

Dry brushing is considered by many to be the most effective natural remedy for removing cellulite and it works by opening up pores and removing dead skin, thus helping to cleanse the body by allowing toxins to exit more freely. It also helps to improves circulation and stimulates collagen production, leading to stronger and smoother skin.

You should be able to find a dry wooden brush from your local chemist or beauty retailer, and all you need to do is brush “toward the heart” and are firm but not too hard.

3. Coconut oil

Coconut oil has so many benefits and one of these is as a moisturiser after dry brushing. It boosts skin health, plus if you ingest it (one or two tbsp per day), it can help burn fat.

4. Massage for circulation

If you don’t have a dry brush or you prefer to use your hands, self massage can be very effective in preventing and eliminating cellulite. Massaging breaks up toxins stored in cellulite and can help the body to metabolise fat cells, reducing their size and making them less noticeable. All it involves is using a natural oil and rubbing the parts with cellulite in a circular motion.

5. Change your diet

You may need to change your eating habits to help your body combat cellulite, such as consuming less simple sugars and carbohydrates and including more fibre in your diet. Eat more fresh fruits and veggies with high water content such as melons, cucumbers, and dark leafy greens to increase skin elasticity and detoxify your body.

Alkaline-forming foods can help to detox your body, which will help eliminate cellulite.
6. Swap your table salt
Swap your refined salt (table salt) for sea salt or Himalayan crystal salt – refined salt is extremely acidic and takes minerals from your body. It is also highly dehydrating, which causes cellulite. Refined salt also only adds to the accumulation of toxicity in your body.
Crystal and sea salt are alkaline and packed full of beneficial minerals.
7. Gelatine

Many of us don’t consume enough gelatine, which can be found naturally in bones, fibrous tissues and organs of animals. These amino acids are needed not only for proper skin, hair and nail growth, but for optimal immune function and weight regulation, oh and curing cellulite.

8. Omega-3s

Omega-3 fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins will help reduce cellulite over time. Not to mention, they are also important for many other functions in the body, and you can find them in fish and these other foods.
