7 super fun and original DIY planters

You’d be surprised what and where you can plant your garden. We’ve found 7 really clever DIY planter ideas. It will definitely leave a personal touch in your garden and it’s affordable.

1. Use an old pair of shoes as your flower pot

3. Flower pot from an old tyre rim

You’ll need

• Old rim
• Black paint (one can)
• Broken pieces of tile for decoration
• Brown felt to line the inside of the rim
• Clay
• Fertile soil

Steps

1. Clean rust off the wheel to prepare for painting. Apply coat of paint.
2. Use a cutter to break up pieces of tile into desired design
3. Apply layer of clay on the outside of the wheel. Place tile in pattern (before it dries)
4. Once clay has dried a bit, remove excess with a cloth
5. Put piece of felt inside the wheel, pour in the soil and plant your flowers.

4. Make your own teacup garden

• Teacups – whatever size, shape and amount you choose
• Plants
• Pebbles

5. Bathtub into beautiful garden

6. Burlap bag planter pot

You’ll need 

• Coffee bags (Hessian bags or burlap bags)
• Soil
• Plants
• Scissors

Steps

1. Cut the bags in half lengthways. You could cut them into thirds to make them smaller too.
2. Stitch the edge in order to create a sleeve.
3. Then stitch the base of the bag to create a sealed pouch
4. Roll top of the bag to create a grip point.
5. Fill with soil and plant you’d like.

7. Make your own book planter

You’ll need

• Vintage book
• 2-3 small succulents
• Potting soil (small amount)
• 1 exacto knife
• Parchment paper
• White glue
• Dry moss

Steps

1. Rub layer of white glue against the paper binding so the pages stick together
2. Measure area and cut a square for your planting. The cut doesn’t need to be clean or pretty – the only page that will show is the top one. The hole should be at least 3.5-4cm deep.
3. Line hole with parchment paper (to prevent water damage to book)
4. Place succulent in hole and repack the soil around it
5. Cover soil with dry moss or you can leave the soil exposed
6. Cut the edges of the parchment paper so they are hidden
