5 jewellery cleaning tips

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but not when they’re cloudy! Same goes for silver and gold jewellery which can looked tarnished or worn.

But you don’t have to have tired old jewellery – it can be cleaned up in a jiffy! Here’s 5 of our favourite jewellery cleaning tips.

1. Toothpaste

This is our go-to for any tarnished jewellery and it is as easy as coating your jewellery and then polishing off with a cloth and rinsing! Remember to buy the white kind.

2. Window cleaner and water

Get a small bowl and ramekin and fill 3/4 full and heat in microwave until nearly boiled. Spray around 8-1- sprays of your window cleaner and place your diamond/gem ring into the bowl. Wait for at least an hour and take out. Without rinsing first, give it a good scrub with a toothbrush and voila!

3. Tomato sauce

This condiment isn’t just for your sausages or chips, you can use tomato sauce to transform lacklustre jewellery. All you need to do is pop your silver or gold jewellery in a bowl of tomato ketchup and let sit for 10 minutes. Use an old toothbrush to scrub the sauce and then rinse and dry!

4. Beer

Before you drink all your beer, it might be the perfect time to quickly clean your ring or bracelet, gold or silver. Pour a bit of beer (not dark ale) onto a soft cloth and gently polish your gold or silver (no gemstones). They’ll be sparkling again in no time.

5. Soda water

Time to give your precious and semi-precious gemstone baubles a bath in some soda/tonic water. Soak your precious items in glass of soda water overnight and wipe dry.
