If you have stainless steel appliances in your kitchen, then you’ll know the frustration of cleaning fingerprint, water marks and soap scum constantly.

Sometimes no matter what you use or how hard you wipe your stainless steel appliances, the marks are still there.

But there are ways you can clean them effectively, without having to resort to supermarket sprays.

Here are a few top tips for cleaning your stainless steel appliances with ease.

1. Olive Oil and Vinegar

They’re both handy household items with many uses, which is what makes olive oil and vinegar perfect for cleaning your stainless steel appliances. The vinegar works as a cleaner, while the olive oil works as a polish. Try spraying the vinegar onto your stainless steel appliances or applying it with a microfibre cloth. Wipe the vinegar in the direction of the grain of the stainless steel, applying it as many times as you need to get all of the dirt and grime off. To polish with the olive oil, just dab some on a clean cloth and wipe in the direction of the grain. If you have any olive oil residue left over, just wipe it off with a clean cloth.

2. WD-40

Next time you need to clean your stainless steel appliances, why not reach for the WD-40? Apparently WD-40 is not only a handy cleaner, it also helps protect your appliances from fingerprints and other marks. All you need to do is spray some WD-40 onto the appliance or on a rag and wipe it clean. It should make your stainless steel appliance shiny and clean. One thing to note is because WD-40 is petroleum based, you should be careful when using it around surfaces where you’ll be handling food.

3. A cloth and some warm water

It might seem simple, but sometimes a cloth and some warm water can be the best way to clean a stainless steel appliance. Just soak a cloth in some warm water and wipe the surface of the appliance until it is clean. It’s essential to dry the surface with a towel or dry cloth to stop water marks from forming on the stainless steel.

4. Dishwashing liquid and baby oil

Using dishwashing liquid and baby oil will give you a similar result to using vinegar and olive oil. The dishwashing liquid cleans your stainless steel appliances and the baby oil polishes them.  Try putting the dishwashing liquid on a rag and dampen it a little, then just wipe with the grain of your appliance making sure you rub the areas where you find fingerprints to get them off. If there are any streaks after you clean, wipe them off with a clean towel. Next, just dab a little bit of baby oil on a clean cloth and wipe along the grain of your appliance.

5.  Flour

It might sound unconventional, put apparently flour is particularly handy for cleaning your stainless steel sinks. First, run some warm water through the sink and clean it with a cloth.  Once the sink has dried, coat it in flour (use as much as you want) and then wipe it off in a circular, buffing motion. Apparently, your sink will come up shiny again.
