DIY natural hand sanitiser

Hand sanitiser has almost become a must have accessory these days. Although the idea of being able to clean your hands before a meal when you’re out and about is appealing, often the strong smell and chemicals that are pumped into sanitisers at the store are not.

They are often filled with chemicals and ingredients we have never heard of and can leave your hands dry after applying so we went searching for an alternative. We found a quick and easy recipe to make your own sanitiser at home with only a few ingredients, most of which you probably already have.

Here is what you will need:

  • 2 cups of aloe vera gel
  • 1 tbs witch hazel
  • 1/2 tsp tea tree oil
  • 1/4 tsp vitamin-E (optional)
  • Essential oil of your choice (optional)

Here are the simple steps:

  • Measure out two cups of aloe vera gel into a bowl
  • Add the witch hazel, tea tree oil, vitamin-E and essential oil (like lavender)
  • Stir to combine and pour into a spray or pump bottle

It is that easy to quickly make your own sanitiser which can also moisturise your hands and smells lovely. Aloe vera, lavender oil, tea tree and witch hazel all have antibacterial properties which will help fight germs. The witch hazel fights germs in a similar way to alcohol but isn’t as harsh and the vitamin-E is an optional for added moisturising so your hands won’t dry out after use.

Will you try this? Do you use hand sanitiser often?
