Poet’s corner: The aged are singled out

Feb 22, 2014

Val has vented her frustration at Joe Hockey’s talk of raising the pension age today through poetry… very entertaining poetry I might add.   Enjoy!

Hockey says when the pension was first paid

Most people died at fifty five

Me? I query those facts

As I knew lots who stayed alive

Admittedly three score and ten

Meant some were past their best

And they drifted off this mortal coil

To their eternal rest

But now we’re living longer

And, perhaps, soon being aged

Will be just as bad as smoking

To make detractors rage

They might suggest we take it up

Or eat ’til we’re obese

Or drink hard stuff  until we drop

In hopes our lives will cease

I hope the day never comes

When the aged are singled out

As a blot upon the nation’s wealth

And their lives are worth ‘nowt’
