Draw your lightsaber, gather your Wookies and whip your hair into two tight buns, it’s Star Wars Day. This little know holiday celebrates the epic film series that propelled Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford into mega stardom and pushed Mark Hamill into, well, the next Star Wars film.
Released 16 years apart, the two trilogies comprise the fifth highest grossing movie franchise (after Marvel films, Harry Potter, James Bond and Lord of the Rings), and all six films were nominated for or won Academy awards.
Fox News reports that May 4th has been recognised as Star Wars day ever since the London Evening News congratulated the newly elected Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher with the following headline: “May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations”.
