The rock band signed by the Beatles…

This UK band, signed in 1968 by the Beatles’ music label, Apple, began recording their top 10 hit today in 1970. They were famous for four top 10 hits in their time. Do you remember this hit rock song and the band who sang it?

‘No Matter What’ was the first UK top 10 single composed and performed by Badfinger. It reached number five in the UK in January 1971 and peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song was recorded for their album No Dice in 1970, and was written and sung by Pete Ham.

Badfinger were a British rock band consisting originally of Pete Ham, Ron Griffiths, Mike Gibbins and Tom Evans; active from 1968 to 1983. They evolved from an earlier band called The Iveys, formed early in the 1960s. They were signed by the Beatles’ Apple label in 1968 as The Iveys, adopting the name Badfinger in 1969. Badfinger had four consecutive worldwide hits in 1970 and 1971: “Come and Get It” (written and produced by Paul McCartney), “No Matter What”, “Day After Day” and “Baby Blue”.
