“The Most Beautiful Girl” soars to number one in 1973

This country and western ballad was a number one hit on three Billboard music charts today in 1973: the pop chart, the country chart and the adult contemporary chart.

“The Most Beautiful Girl” is a cover of “Hey Mister”, which was recorded by co-writer Norris Wilson, and featured on British pop star Engelbert Humperdinck’s album, Engelbert: King of Hearts.

The track was covered in the 70s, including a version by ABBA singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad in 1975, and again in 2001 by country boy band South 65.

Even Seinfeld character George Costanza did a very memorable rendition in an episode.

Sing it to your partner tonight if you can remember it….
