One of the best selling singles of all time hits number one today in 1978

Now, we think this is one you’ll all remember – it’s still a hit today.

One of the best selling singles of all time went to number one today in 1978 and it was performed by none other than Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta themselves for the hit 1978 flick, Grease.

“You’re the One That I Want” is the memorable song from that unforgettable scene in Grease with Olivia’s tight leather pants. It went on to sell 6 million copies and is a karaoke hit to this day.

When the track was released to coincide with the movie’s debut, it became an international number one hit. It was certified platinum and is still the fifth best selling single of all time.

Nowadays, you can hear the song laced into a Grease medley, and played in nightclubs around the world.

John Travolta oozed sexiness when he sung along with Olivia…and who could forget those lines “I got chills, they’re multiplying”!? Or “You better shape up, do doo doo”?

Have a little singalong below and tell us, what were you doing in 1978 and how do you remember this awesome song?
