Today, 1971 marked the date when a great American entertainer released her first chart-topper as a solo artist in the United States. The single was certified Gold by the RIAA for the sales of over 1 million copies.

It tells the tale of a girl who was “born in the wagon of a travelling show,” where her mother works as a dancer and her father does anything possible to earn money.

The female artist reached the Top 10 on the Hot 100 during each of four decades—the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s, placing her alongside Madonna, Barbra Streisand and Whitney Houston.

Her deep voice is extremely unique and soars to great heights, can you guess the single and the artist?

  1. Cher singing “If I Could Turn Back Time,” while straddling one of the massive guns of the Battleship the USS Missouri . I have the Dvd of it. It should be the anthem of the Over Sixties

  2. OMG such a fantastic entertainer – AND THAT VOICE! Is it really 43 years since this hit the airwaves. Loved her as half of the duo with Sonny – then she went from strength to strength as a solo artist.
