1973: Beatles member scores his own number one

This former Beatles member was a Starr in his own right, scoring a number one just three years after the split of the group, in 1973.

The lead single from the album named after himself, it went on to be an international hit, achieving gold certification and number ones in the US, Canada and Australia, as well as sales of 1 million +

The singer’s former bandmate George Harrison co-wrote the song with him in France and so was sung at a concert for George in 2002, a year after his death.

Covered several times since, this was one of the most successful breakaway songs by a member of the Fab Four.
