Ahh… the 70s. Such a decade to remember! So many things happened then – men kept their hair long, big bands splitting, super stars dying, and women rising to power.

Here are some of the things that you’ll never forget if you grew up in the 70s…

The Beatles split up
When The Beatles’ announced that they had split up in April 1970, everyone felt like they were going to die.
Some say that the split was spurred on by the death of Brian Epstein, their fearless promoter, while others blamed George Harrison’s growth as a composer.

A woman finally became Prime Minister
Margaret Thatcher rose to power in 1979 – the first of three elections she would go on to win.

The men had crazy hair
It was long, bushy and often came with a moustache and they had sideburns too.
Footballer Kevin Keegan gave good hair back then unlike the ones we have today.

The Swedish pop band made the 70s their Waterloo, and Knowing Me, Knowing You, you remember them just as well as the next 70s teenager.

Some of your musical idols died
The 70s wasn’t a great decade for pop star mortality: Janis Joplin died from a heroin overdose in 1970, Jimi Hendrix died a month earlier, and then Elvis Presley was found dead in 1977.

The Silver Jubilee cheered things up a bit in 1977
1977 was a big year for royal celebration as Queen Elizabeth celebrated her Silver Jubilee. The Sex Pistols released their famous ‘God Save The Queen’, everyone had a street party, or turned out in London to watch Queen Elizabeth II walk down The Mall.

The Holden HX was such a popular car and it was definitely cool to drive it.
