The new Facebook changes you need to know and how to use them 21

In the last week, Facebook has made some pretty cool changes to their News Feed feature that will make it a lot easier to see the content you want.

Facebook’s goal for its newly improved news feed is to show you more of the stories that matter to you most – it ranks the order of the stories based on your past habits.

Here are three things you need to know about the changes:IMG_6012

1. Prioritise who to see first

Make sure you don’t miss posts from particular friends and pages, by select which friends and Pages you would like to see at the top of your news feed.

To do this, scroll down to settings (should be three lines) and choose “news feed preferences” then click on “prioritise who to see first” and then click on your favourite to never miss a post from them.

For example, you can click on Starts at 60 to make sure you don’t miss our posts:

2. Reconnect with people or pages you unfollowed

Under the same setting, you can now see a list of the top people, pages and groups that you’ve seen in your news feed. You can also see who you’ve unfollowed in the past and choose to refollow them:

3. Discover new pages

If you don’t follow a lot of pages or are interested to find more, the ‘discover new pages’ option will help you to connect with pages or businesses you might be interested in, based on other pages you like:

According to Greg Marra, Facebook’s product manager for News Feed, said the feature was modelled after News Feed’s “unfollow” feature, which allows people to choose not to see posts from specific pages and people in their feed. “The thing we were constantly hearing was: ‘there’s a few people that I really care about and I want to make sure I don’t miss stuff from those people”, he told Mashable.

So far, the new preferences are only available on Facebook for iOS, however desktop and Android will receive the update in a few weeks.

Tell us, have you put Starts at 60 at the top of your list?

      • Agreed Rosanna, bad enough the fawning over “our” Princess Mary of Denmark, but too much about the UK royals too. When I moved here from England I thought I was getting away from all that guff but here it’s worse!

    • Rosanna I’m not a lover of the royals either but there are a lot of people in this group that are. What I do when I don’t want certain posts on my page I hit the little arrow right top of the post and hit hide this post. It then disappears of your news feed but you will still get other posts from starts at 60.

  2. The reason you have to see them, is because Facebook keep sending you back to the days first topics if you stop to see or read something. So sharing saves going back to the beginning. Until its fixed you just have to keep trawling.

  3. I would like a book mark type feature so that you can find where you were up to in your Newsfeed instead of having so scroll through everything again. Or is there one already that I don’t know about? It would be very useful to have when FB is updating and new feeds drop in and you are thrown back to the very beginning again. It has been happening a lot the last 2 days and I have given up trying to keep up. Sometimes it happens in the middle of making a comment. It’s enough to send me to the snack cupboard!

    • Jennifer, that kept happening to me and after a phone call to my boy wonder, he told me to Up date Face book. It’s great now!

    • I update things when I get notifications but is there a way to update without them Catharine? I wish I had a boy wonder. I used to have one but my daughter broke up with him which was sad.

  4. I can’t get my “boosters” from Bubbles IQ. What am I doing wrong? I have done a new pass word and made sure it was connected to Facebook, it’s not coming through
