Princess Mary slammed for her outfit choice on recent trip 11

She’s usually considered one of the most fashionable women on the planet and has been crowned the ‘most stylish royal’ two years in a row, but Princess Mary is facing a whole lot of criticism over her latest look.

On a recent trip to Greenland, Mary decided to support a local designer Great Greenland by wearing one of their sealskin coats.

The grey jacket features panels of the black sealskin across the middle and bottom of the coat.

While many people thought it was a great look, animals rights group PETA Australia jumped on it straight away calling her “cold-hearted” for wearing it.

“Despite being made aware of all the cruelties of the fur industry, it still hasn’t clicked for Princess Mary that wearing animals makes her look cold-hearted and totally out of touch,” she said.

“The majority of Australian people shun fur, and it’s time that the princess gave animals a fair go by going fur-free.”

Greater Greenland says they have been using “Sustainable, high quality fashion and lifestyle products from various types of sealskin since 1977,” but sustainable or not, the coat has certainly drummed up debate.

“I like Princess Mary, but that’s horrible,” said one commenter after seeing the photos.

“I thought she would have been a little more aware than this,” said another.

While animal abuse and the fur industry are huge issues, not all animals lovers were ready to condemn Mary for wearing the coat.

“Princess Mary often wears ‘ethical clothing’, wearing seal is to support the industry in Greenland. Seals, like cows, are used for their meat and fur. This is like someone criticising Kate’s knee high leather boots,” said one supporter.

“They’re just jealous she looks so good in it. And heck, at least it wasn’t made from baby seals,” said another.

What do you think of Mary’s coat? Should she be more careful about what she wears? Or should people just leave her alone?

  1. She is dammed if she does dammed if She doesn’t,do these critics wear leather shoes, belts etc,eat meat/fish etc,all involving animals

  2. I am so over every day hearing some disgruntled person complaining about others. Do they have so little to fill their lives? In Greenland seal skin in clothing is part of their industry. Do these whiners have leather boots made from cows? Poor Mary

  3. In countries such as these the seal is well preserved and their numbers are taken as they are available. This industry is part and parcel of the Northern countries and has been utilized for thousands of years from the Innuit to every other nation. You cannot criticize a country for the types of live animal programs it has, that is like saying we should not graze cattle or sheep for instance. We use every part of the sheep what is the difference between that and using every part of the seal.Nothing is wasted with the seal and they are sustainably caught. If they did not preserve them in this manner there would be none left and that is not the case; Criticism is unwarranted in this respect. There is no reason why Mary should not wear a seal skin coat in support of the seal industry that is like saying do not wear wool jumpers or or coats or sheepskin coats, or anything else made from the skins of a sheep. Frequently we are told wear wool and everything else to keep the sheep industry alive. Does this not mean the same thing to those who utilize the seal?

  4. Well said Brenda Ryan. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if the people of PETA also wear designer clothes made in sweat factories. Whilst I appreciate PETA stance on animals, sometimes I think they go too over board on their issues.
Princess Mary is a wonderful role model and is aware of PETA ‘s stand on animals, however, she is also aware of cultural issues and was supporting a culture that uses seals in an sustainable way.

  5. Get over it I suppose you eat meat ? They killed the animals to feed you 🤔

  6. To all the members of PETA, please feel free to move to this part of the world wearing your cotton outfits. Let us know how you are coping after your first five years there.

  7. First and Foremost!! Princess Mary is no longer an Australian Citizen. Secondly Denmark has a different stance on what we Aussies think is correct. At the end of the day there will always be Nay-Sayers who will pick the Eye out of a needle because it makes them feel Superior. Get over yourselves and Get on with your Own lives ,before throwing rocks.Princess Mary is a Credit to The Danish Royal Family. Her language is Danish then English. So does that not make her Loyalties to Denmark?.

  8. If Greenland doesn’t have a problem with her coat, then no one else should either. It’s not like they have a whole lot to pick from up there to make coats. Maybe PETA can start producing clothing for Greenland out of all the plastic found in oceans.

  9. How is it that the PETA TROLLERS are not bagging the native Greenlanders for wearing their National dress which inculdes sealskin trousers and sealskin boots ? Easy to make a target of Princess Mary given her position but a different matter bagging a whole country for their National Costume , oh and btw if you are bothered to do some research , you will find most members of the Danish Royal Family Honour Greenlanders when they visit Greenland by wearing the Greenland National Dress such as when Greenland gained its independence, where were all the TROLLERS then hey ?
So to all you thin lipped and bitter old tarts who bagged out PM , have you been trolling websites and bagging out Native Americans for making traditional clothing out of Elk, Moose, Deer and Bearskins ? No I thought not , once again you display your bitter arrogance by bagging someone in the spotlight.
