Over 60 TV star uses marijuana to treat macular degeneration whilst another makes his own brand of it

For years, Hollywood stars have made no secret of their love for marijuana, and no less on the unofficial day of marijuana celebration, April 20, or ‘4/20’. Yesterday marked the special day on dope smokers calendars, and Roseanne Barr was one of them.

Speaking out for the first time about her use of marijuana for medicinal reasons, the 62-year-old sitcom star revealed to the Daily Beast that she was suffering from macular degeneration, an issue that affects 1 in 7 Australians over the age of 50. When asked why she was a fan of marijuana, she expressed that she wanted it legalised and said “It’s a good medicine, you know. I have macular degeneration and glaucoma, so it’s good for me for that because I have pressure in my eyes. It’s a good medicine for a lot of things”.

Sadly, the once bubbly actress is now losing her vision and says that her doctors have been unable to say when she will be blind but she is trying to stay positive and keep her sense of humour.

“My vision is closing in now”, Roseanne told The Daily Beast. “It’s something weird. But there are other weird things. That one’s harsh, ’cause I read a lot, and then I thought, ‘Well, I guess I could hire somebody to read for me and read to me.’ But I like words and I like looking. You do what you have to do. I just try and enjoy vision as much as possible—y’know, living it up. My dad had it, too”.

In the same vein, country music star Willie Nelson has revealed that he will release a line of marijuana and assures consumers “our product is the best on the market”, reports SMH.

Unlike Roseanne, Willie’s love for marijuana has been widely publicised and he has been arrested several times for possession.

A spokesman for the brand Willie’s Reserve, Michael Bowman, told a US news website that Willie plans to extended to opening stores under the name of Willie’s Reserve, with the first to open within a year. The store will stock Willie’s own brand of pot as well as other growers. There has been a relaxation of marijuana laws across America, and now it is legal in Alaska, Oregon and the District of Columbia, with other states including California, Massachusetts and Nevada allowing medical marijuana and have decriminalised possession of recreational amounts.

Currently, cannabis is illegal in Australia and is remaining so whilst medical marijuana is being trialled in QLD, NSW and Victoria.

So tell us this afternoon, should marijuana be legalised for medicinal reasons? Or even recreational reasons? Is Roseanne’s reason more legitimate than Willie’s, i.e. that she wants to use it for medical reasons and he for more recreational reasons?
