Judi Dench makes history with award win, but has a surprising reaction

One of our favourites, Dame Judi Dench, has made history with her win at the Olivier awards only moments ago.

Judi won the Best Actress In A Supporting Role for her performance in The Winter’s Tale, meaning she has now won more Oliviers than any other actor in history.

With her trademark no-nonsense humour, she took to the stage to poke fun at her win.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m absolutely livid as I had a bet with my grandson … and I’m never going to be able to forget it,” she said.

As she praised the “fantastic company and crew and stage management”, she added: “It’s lovely to have, but in actual fact it belongs to all those people just as much as it belongs to me.”

The Olivier awards are a prestigious event honouring London’s theatre and stage actors every year.

Judi looked pretty fabulous at the event, wearing a striking black and gold sheer coat over her dress.

The 81-year-old won her first Olivier in 1977 for her part in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and she hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down since.

She’s had hit after hit on the stage and the big screen with some of her most notable roles being the ‘Pride and Prejudice’, James Bond blockbuster ‘Skyfall’, and ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’.
