If we could turn back time…

How many times in your life have you said “if only I could turn back time”? But truly, given the chance, would you really go back in time?

It might sound tempting to go back and relive our days as kids or perhaps do that one thing over, but in reality, not many of us actually want to do that.

A recent survey has revealed that the older we get, the less we want to have a time machine to take us back. In fact, only 3 per cent of those aged 65 and older said that they would like to time travel, whereas 10 per cent of those aged 18 to 49 were raring to go.

Senior researcher of the study, Aaron Smith, said that the reason why we feel less inclined to turn back the clock as we get older is linked to our maturity and apathy towards revisiting or rehashing events in the past. We are much more focused on what is ahead of us and making the most of our life.

We’d probably much rather see events well before our time instead of things that have happened to us personally. Wouldn’t you rather see the Earth’s creation or the pyramids instead of your own birth or your first kiss?

A time machine represents science fiction to us over 60s and even the most fanciful of us have given up believing that a time machine will exist in our lifetime. And if it did, it seems most of us wouldn’t be lining up to use it anyway!

Another science fiction invention is teleportation and we weren’t sold on that either when asked. Only 39 per cent of those surveyed believe that scientists will have solved teleportation in the next 50 years and likewise, we don’t really have a need for it anymore, unless it is to see our family or friends.
