I don’t think Caitlyn Jenner should be allowed to get away with this

Last month, I wrote an article about why I’m not supporting Caitlyn Jenner. Guess what? That still stands, and perhaps even more so now that new information about her manslaughter charges have come to light.

Like I said last time around, this lack of support has nothing to do with Caitlyn’s transition to female, in fact it is completely irrelevant. I believe any human who harms another human should accept the consequences.

TMZ reports that after the February crash that resulted in the death of a mother, and the hospitalisation of five others, Caitlyn Jenner is likely to escape vehicular manslaughter charges.

The usual sentence for misdemeanour-level manslaughter is a year in the county jail. Jenner told Matt Lauer, “The media wants that picture, don’t they? That is the worst-case scenario. I don’t know. We’ll see. The men’s county jail. It is an enormous problem that they would put trans women in a men’s county jail”.

Speaking about the fatal crash, Jenner told Today, “I was under the speed limit, I was going 46 in a 50 (80km/hour zone) — my airbag didn’t even go off.

“I remember it very little, I remember it happening and that’s about it. A tragedy like this, you’ll never get over it. You just learn to live with it the best you possibly can”.

I guess that excuses you from going to jail then? I’m sorry but I’m not satisfied with that – I strongly feel that this is just another case of a celebrity getting off scot-free. If it were you and I who caused a fatal crash by allegedly being distracted by our phone, we’d be marched right off to court and would expect jail time if not a hefty fine and our licence revoked. Caitlyn Jenner has been spotted driving multiple times since the accident.
