Goodbye, Little Stevie: Legendary rocker to be farewelled today

As we reported with heavy hearts just over a week ago, Little Stevie Wright, frontman of the Easybeats passed away at the age of 68.

Today, a public funeral will be held to honour the memory of one of the greatest musicians our country ever saw and certainly one of the shining stars of our generation.

He and the Easybeats paved the way for so many other Australians with the success of their song Friday On My Mind which climbed to number one in Australia, number six in Britain and onto the US top 20, which was unheard of at the time.

A member of the ARIA Hall of Fame, Wright was one of the shining stars of the 1960s music scene, and for years was known by the name “Little Stevie”.

Stevie Wright died in Moruya Hospital on the New South Wales south coast on the 27th of December, after falling ill with pneumonia.

His funeral will be held at St Andrews Cathedral in Sydney at 11am today and is open to all family, friends and fans.

Wright’s partner, Fay Walker and his son, Nick, from a previous marriage are expected to attend, reports 9News.

Tell us: did you love Little Stevie and the Easybeats? Will you be heading along if you are in Sydney today?
