Can he call a Bond Girl a “Bond Crumpet”?

Aug 09, 2015

Political correctness has gone so mad that even Roger Moore, the 87 year old Bond we all loved, has decided to bow to it and admit that actresses in the ongoing stream of Bond flicks should no longer be referred to as “Bond Girls”.  Bond’s leading ladies now have a standing of their own, but Moore certainly had a sense of humour when addressing the subject matter.

‘Bond female doesn’t have the same ring, does it?’ he said. ‘Bond lady, perhaps? Or what about . . . Bond crumpet?!’ he said in an interview with the Daily Mail.

Knowing what he said wouldn’t go down to well in the world of twitter one-liners, he laughed and said: ‘Oh, Bond crumpet will get the angry brigade going on Twitter!’

At 87, Moore is adamant that political correctness is out of hand, and that manners have sadly waned in modern society.

‘When I was brought up, we were always boys and girls, and men and women. You would stand up for a lady when she came into a room — but you get called a sexist pig if you show manners like that now,” he said.

‘The problem is that leading ladies get called all kinds of things today. But a Bond girl was always a Bond girl. The rest — Bond female, Bond lady — don’t sound right. But I do like Bond crumpet!’

Moore, having done the longest stream of Bond Movies, has certainly met with his fair share of Bond leading ladies, and he knows well which one his favourite is.

‘Maud Adams, who was in two. She did The Man With The Golden Gun, and she came back. That never happens — but she did, in Octopussy. Always on time — and also Swedish,’ he said to the mail, smugly.

Who is your favourite Bond Girl? and can you do better than “Bond Crumpet” as an idea for what to call the leading ladies?
