Second in series (first being The Master Undone)

Publisher description: “From New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones, an Inside Out series e-short told from Mark’s point of view, as he battles his all-consuming desire for Crystal.

Devastated by Rebecca’s death, Mark is facing the chaos of the press and the police investigation alone, his reputation, his business, and even his freedom under threat. When a family emergency sends him back east to New York, he puts Crystal—who’s as capable as she is challenging—in charge of his San Francisco art gallery. A Master, all about control, right now he feels that he has none. With his secret sex club and his relationships of the past in the spotlight, Mark finds sanctuary in the one place he promised he would never be again—but cannot seem to resist Crystal’s arms”.

While I do understand that this is part of a series and that it is suggested that you read the first book, I was still not impressed. The story is told by the main male character in the first person and was a bit weak. I thought it was too short and not very involved. Most continuations of a story have at least somewhat of a stand alone story line. Wish I could rate better but the story really doesn’t deserve more.

There are several different story lines that the book could have gone down however none were given the opportunity to grow. The main character operates a private BDSM member-only club, he has parents who are in frail condition, he has lost his submissive girlfriend and is a suspect in her murder, now there is a new female in the picture and there is interest there. Many side lines that could have been a bit more intriguing in this short book but none were taken and so it ended with there being too many.

If you are an avid reader of Lisa Renee Jones then perhaps it would be worth reading the series in order but I am not convinced and as such won’t read the others.
