In the last six-plus decades, there have been 7 Popes of the Roman Catholic Church:

  • Pope Pius XII, 1939 to 1958
  • Pope John XXIII, 1958 to 1963 (was it really only 4 1/2 years?)
  • Pope Paul VI, 1963 to 1978 (who carried out many of the reforms his predecessor proposed)
  • Pope John Paul I, 1978 to 1978 (beloved of conspiracy theorists)
  • Pope John Paul II, 1978 to 2005 (the much-loved JP2)
  • Pope Benedict XVI, 2005 to 2013 (retired)
  • Pope Francis 2013.

Is Pope Francis the reformer some say the church needs? Will he bring the church into the 21st century? Bring about change to make the church more inclusive? Only time will tell!

Pope FrancisIn a conversation with Vatican expert Andrea Tornielli, Pope Francis discloses the core of his papacy and, in his own words, conveys the great message of the Holy Year of Mercy.

For the first time, Pope Francis addresses each woman and each man on Earth in a deep, simple and intimate dialogue.

Through his own experience as a priest and shepherd, the pope talks about Mercy, a subject of central importance in his teaching and testimony.

He explains the reasons for this extraordinary Holy Year, and in doing so, he speaks to all the souls – inside and outside the Church – who are looking for a meaning in life, for a road to peace and reconciliation, for a healing of their physical and spiritual wounds.

It is the summing up of his teachings and papacy. What do they mean for the body of the church and for those outside? Will the church become inclusive in the spirit of Mercy?

He was a nasty argentinian policeman who killed a lot of people. He needs the mercy.

They put that propaganda out to cover their devious deeds. If you want to put your head in the sand I feel sorry for you.

The only mercy most people are interested in is mercy that they receive. Mercy for other people is undeserved. For example, the huge majority in Australia that applaud and endorse the government’s unmerciful treatment of asylum seekers, saying these people, even the infants, deserve the treatment they are getting.

This Man and that is what he is !! should ,expell Pell and all the other pedophiles in his church and bring the change from the top and allow marriage or civil ceremonies for his Priests ..then the people who are under this religion should distant themselves from the churches until it is cleaned up !! I would never continue to worship such atrocities that happen under the guise of religion ..you can love God anywhere if you want ..Shameful !!!!!

Whether priests marry on not has absolutely nothing to do with pedophilia. Pedophiles don’t want to have sex with adults they want kids. End of story 😩😑

Agree with Lee. It has been shown that the vast majority of pedophiles, even those who prey on boys, identify as heterosexual.

Yes a pedophile is what they are ..I agree with your comments so why do the people who follow under the banner of this church continue to worship them ,! That I don’t understand .

Lola I think there are many Catholics who are confused and hurt by all this.I think I would either become militant botherer of the heirarchy or I would denounce them very publicly, but I am an atheist and a cynic so maybe I can view the church with contempt much more easily.

Nita I was raised a Catholic. I believe I carry God in my heart with me at all times. I DO NOT go to church, the Catholic Church lost me years ago. Lola we do NOT worship the Priests goodness me far from it. I am truely happy I was given the opportunity to be raised with a religion, it has taught me a great deal. It allowed me to let my children go to any church they wished, and make up their own mind on what they believed. I agree the church has a lot of housekeeping to do, and is losing people due to all that has transpired….. BUT… I will not lower myself to the hate and name calling.
