  2. If this is true then how come I lost 15 kilos in 7 months by restricting my calorie intake to 1200 calories a day and exercising. I have kept it off for 4 years. I know that everyone is probably sick of hearing about my experience. But that is what it is – experience – and it worked for me. If you have an underlying medical condition then that is a different story. I lost my weight under the supervision of my doctor who was very supportive. For the first month I thought I would starve then I guess my stomach shrunk and I no longer had the hunger pains. After losing 9 kilos I plateaued and would have lost hope but for my doctor. He told me it was not a matter of if I would plateau but when. My body was conserving fat because it thought that I was starving. I did my research and learnt what causes plateauing and then changed my routine. I stopped exercising while still sticking to 1200 calories and that jump started my losing again. In the next 6 weeks I lost 3 kilos and reached my goal weight. There is no easy way to lose weight and keep it off. Every week I weight myself and if I have put on 100g I am determined to get it off.

    • Congratulations! I think you have do me well. I am trying to lose weight too and I think eating less and better is the answer. For you to have kept it off for so long you are obviously doing the right thing.

    • Sue Walshaw Sue in my experience portion size is the answer. Everything you put in your mouth except water has calories. Yes eat healthy but still watch portion size. Losing weight has literally changed my life for the better. No way I could have trekked before losing the weight. This is a photo of me on one of our treks minus the 10 kilo pack. Don’t give up. If you fall off the wagon one day don’t beat yourself up. Just get back on the next day.

    • Congratulations.. I agree with how you achieved this. I lost 10.5kg in 3 mths 2yrs ago by using a similar approach. Eliminated highly processed foods/ baking. Mainly hav my iwn grown fruit & vegs. Low fat milk. No extra sugar in diet ad most foods already hav it present. Drink lots of H20. Gave up my car. Cycle on av 45-50k a week. Lots off walks with my dogs. Hav maintained weihht loss. GP is “wrapped” as no longer on BP pills..No longer classed as pre-diabetic. Hav lots more energy, sleep better. It is really worth the effort rather than ending up with long term health issues. Plus we all hav the opportunity to take control ova our health unless its a serious genetic problem that has limited interventions.

    • Thank you Debbie, very informative post, my problem is keeping the weight off. But l thing your right its all about portion sizes & exercising , the rest of our lives.

    • You can’t inspire anybody if you hide you light under a bushel. Sing out about it. You are inspiring me. I don’t care what I look like but I find everyday actions painful because my poor little ankles and knees weren’t designed for the weight. It’s your walking/exercising that I most admire. Cheers.

  3. I learned a long time ago not to take too much notice of “experts”. Weight loss is simple. Eat less. Cut out all take away food. Exercise more

  4. Eat a little bit every two or three hours and you will lose weight. Then increase the amount for a day or two, then reduce it again. It kickstarts the metabolism.

  5. I’m one of the lucky ones can eat anything any time weight stays the same.

    • We hate people like you Steve. Lol. Just jealous of course. Not sure I’m actually overweight, but a little bit more distribution wouldn’t go amiss, especially round the middle!! Am 5′ 1″ and weigh about 8 stones 4ounces (54 kilos). I say about because I daren’t get on the scales at the moment.

    • Jeanette did you attend the coffee meeting. I was up all night with a poorly cat, cleaning up after him, so darent leave him alone. I did email Briana and Rebecca.

    • Christa yes I did. There were 7 of us there. Lovely friendly group. Come along next time. Hope your cat is better. I did manage to get into the site in the end. A few of the others had trouble too.

    • Glad you had a good meeting. Smokey is 16 now and has a heart murmur and bad hip. Getting a bit incontinent too, poor thing. Can’t do much for him so the vet says. He is currently asleep on my lap.

  6. In many cases, he is correct. As someone who has had to work to keep my weight down, two dieticians have told me to eat more! For me, it has been about watching the carbs, and not having processed food. And, sadly, be careful of the tropical fruits like pineapple and watermelon!

  7. It’s important to know what foods are healthy, that is the nutritional value and amount of calories, there are foods and drinks that are high in calories but exceptionally low in nutrition, avoiding them can be the best start. In my case it was the extra glasses of wine, alcohol has been labeled hollow calories meaning there is no nutrition but plenty of calories. By reducing my red wine intake I have reduced my weight by 6kg in 7 weeks.

    There are plenty of diets available but our experience has told us controlling what we eat and drink with some regular exercise will pay dividends.

  8. This is all great ladies and believe me I have tried, but please tell me how you coped with the horrible hunger pangs 24/7? I drink up to 4 litres of water a day, eat fruit for snacks and meals are low protein and lots of fresh Veges and salad, but 30 mins after eating could do it all again…not filling enough !!!!
