Archbishop says Fifty Shades is a no-no…but would you still see it?

I don’t know about you but I just can’t imagine going to a movie cinema and sitting down next to 150 other people to watch Fifty Shades of Grey. When I read the books (yes, I read the books) I was constantly checking with a mild amount of public guilt when I read it in airports, buses or public places. 

Even knowing it was on on my iPad, out of sight from others, I felt guilty. Perhaps this is a reflection on the way I was raised, or just the content of the books. 

The Archbishop of Cincinnati has categorically deplored the film, saying it is an assault on marriage. 

“The story line is presented as a romance; however, the underlying theme is that bondage, dominance, and sadomasochism are normal and pleasurable,” Archbishop Dennis Schnurr wrote of the erotic book-turned movie on the archdiocese’s Facebook page. “The movie is in direct contrast to the Christian message of God’s design for self-giving and self-sacrificing love, marriage and sexual intimacy”

“The movie is a direct assault on Christian marriage and on the moral and spiritual strength of God’s people,” he added.

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie comes out worldwide today and critics are in no doubt about the film. It has consistently poor reviews, but that doesn’t stop the buyers of more than 100 million books lining up for tickets all over the world.
