100 years of women’s fitness in 100 seconds

Getting fit and staying active has always been on our list of priorities and over the years, there’s been countless amounts of trends.

This new video shows fitness fads from the 1910s to the current day – that’s 100 years in 100 seconds. We didn’t always want to do Zumba-like exercises…but there were some stranger ways to stay in shape!

In the 1910s there were stretches in long skirts, followed by another decade of stretches, often crossing over to top arm to foot. In the 1930s, it was all about looking beautiful and toning up gently, and the same in the 40s. The advent of the hula hoop in the 50s introduced more high-paced workouts, which continued with assisted exercising in the 60s with products such as the Trim Twist! It was all was Jazzercise in the 70s, then the 80s came and transformed home workouts with aerobics, complete with lycra that rode high up the crotch and bum, plus headbands and leg warmers (Aerobics Ozstyle, anyone?). The 90s were about tai chi, tae bo and anything exotic, before the intoxicating street dancing of the 2000s where Britney Spears took over with her choreographed moves. And now, in the 2010s, we’ve graduated to high intensity workouts that work on core strength and cardio, such as Zumba.

Watch this great video and tell us, which era of exercising do you remember participating in?
