When Scottish sportsman Dion Leonard was running an exhausting six-day desert marathon, he bumped into a little dog but what ensued next was beyond belief.

“A little stray dog approached me before the start of Day 2 of the race,” said Dion. “She ran after me, and I thought she wouldn’t last long, but imagine how surprised I was when she made all 23 miles of the distance with me!”

On the next day (Day 3 of the race), the pup joined Dion once again, and this time they ran for another 26 miles.

On Days 4 and 5, there was torrential rain, and the dog, whom Dion named Gobi, couldn’t run alongside him. However, the marathon organisers gave her a lift so that she could continue her journey with her new friend.

On the last day of the run, Dion and Gobi ran side by side again, and they crossed the finish line as a team.

“Gobi picked me to be her pal for life, so I am doing what I can with some great support from around the word to make this happen,” said Dion as quoted in Brightside.

Did Dion leave Gobi behind?

Of course not. This was just the beginning of their friendship — Dion took the pup home to Scotland with him, despite all the bureaucracy.

  1. Animals’ can sense kndness, in a human, & so respond to it in the most incredible ways!

  2. This is incorrect! Gobi is NOT home in Scotland with Dion. Gobi was entrusted to a caretaker while Dion went home to wade through the paperwork of getting Gobi home with him,. Several days ago, Dion got word that Gobi has gone missing, and Dion is currently back in China trying to find his companion. You can get the ACTUAL story on the FB page, “Bring Gobi Hone”.

  3. Everyone reading this story needs to know that Smith (above) IS correct. If anyone knows someone in the area ag China listed on the ‘Bring Gobi Home’ FB page, please have him/her be on the lookout for Gobi!

  4. I adore Dogs!!! never once will they let you down like humans do. Never disrespectful, never lie, always trust you, always considerate. If humans had these basics right we would have a wonderful world. If I was a millionairess like Doris Day did I would fill my home with Dogs and children because children have hope of a better future if you give it to them. To try and change an adults way of thinking is too difficult children have hope. Dogs and children love them guide them for a better world.
