What pisses me off? Repetitive TV promos…

Oh Spare me the ‘Promos’.

There it goes again, the twentieth time that bit of promotion for the programme has been on. If I have to listen again to that same bit of dialogue I think I will explode. “There’s another Mrs Crab”…grrrrr. So we are bombarded with the same bit of film, over and over, and over… if they had any intelligence at all, they would put several different snatches from the programme, not make me scream at the screen with frustration.

Over promoting a new series can sometimes have the opposite effect to the one they are aiming for, as with another American series that was about to grace our screens. I nearly didn’t watch. The programme was really OK, I actually liked it, just the advertising was over the top.

Yet the very best programmes, the ones I love and watch avidly are never promoted. “Call the Midwife” and “Last Tango in Halifax’ are not pushed down our throats, yet they are beautiful stories and real people. Reality programmes, pretending to be real life drive me to seek out strong drink, not that I drink, but it could drive me to it. Those beauty queens looking for love; or the various idiots pretending to fight, as they rebuild a house. Do they think we are sucked in by that rubbish?

Advertising on TV is always louder, and brighter than the normal programme too. They can tell us it isn’t, but my ears and eyes tell me a different story. As the sound blasts my ear drums, and the faces on the screen seem to have brighter red and blues than normal, I shake my head and swear I will not watch any commercial TV in future.

Right that’s my grumpy old woman rant! I am now about to watch “Grand Designs”. The only rant I have about that programme is wondering where all those young people get their fortunes? Just wish I could have a very small portion of what they spend on making some amazing old barn into a penthouse. Or like tonight’s episode, money to completely gut a part of urban London and have a house built in a triangular patch by digging two stories underground. Quite crazy but riveting viewing.

Yet most of all I am fed up with over promotion, with over advertising, with the way things are pushed at us, yep time to get out the tent and head for the wilderness.

Do television promos piss you off too? What is it about them that is so annoying? The repetition? The cheesiness? The fact they are sometimes better than the whole show? Tell us in the comments below…
