Woman falls overboard on Royal Caribbean cruise ship

A cruise passenger has suffered a terrifying ordeal after falling overboard on her Royal Caribbean cruise and being left stranded for 38 hours at sea.

The 32-year-old woman fell over the ship’s guard rail while she was sight-seeing and was left to swim for her life and drift in the water without a life jacket.

She reportedly screamed for help, but to no avail.

The ship was travelling from China to Japan when she fell, plunging into the icy waters below.

South China Morning Post said she called out to other passing ships, but they didn’t hear her.

It wasn’t until a fishing boat spotted her 38 hours later that she was finally rescued and taken to hospital with blisters on her arms from jellyfish stings.

As anyone who has been on a cruise ship will tell you, they are incredibly high and her fall was equal to that of a seven-story building.

The coastguard says she was lucky to survive the fall, let alone the cold water and elements.

Cruise ships usually have strict safety rules so it is not yet known how she fell over in the first place or why it went unnoticed for so long.

There are calls for a review into the incident with passengers saying there should be a better system in place to track people on board.
