Where to next? This is where Australians will be heading in 2016

The Aussie dollar may be down, but that doesn’t mean travel is out! These latest survey results show that most Australians still plan to travel and take holidays next year, even if they might need to change their plans somewhat to get the most out of their travel budget.

Wotif and Lastminute have both released their travel trends for 2016. The findings show that more people will choose to travel in their own backyard, but that the pressure will be on to find good value international destinations and deals.

“We suggest heading to Fiji where you’ll find resorts for all budgets or travel across the ditch to New Zealand, where our Australian dollar still gets you good value travel. Japan is also a growing favourite for Aussies during ski season,” said Kim Stockham from Wotif.

“With the USA featuring on many Aussie-traveller ‘bucket lists’ for 2016 we predict Hawaii, being so close and so affordable, will be a strong destination in the New Year.”

According to the travel company, the top five countries Australians would like to visit next year are:

1. USA
2. NZ
3. Italy
4. Japan/Canada
5. Indonesia

 Meanwhile, Lastminute.com.au surveyed Australians and discovered that Melbourne continues to be Australia’s favourite capital city to visit, followed by Perth and Hobart. 

With the low Aussie dollar, local beach holidays will be popular in 2016, in particular on the east coast of Australia, with the Whitsundays, taking the top domestic beach region to holiday.

In 2016 Aussies will continue to have an appetite for food and wine related travel.  More than  one half of all travellers believe the food and wine on offer in a destination influences their decision to travel there.
