The Queen’s equine love shines through at King’s Troop Parade

There’s nothing more guaranteed to bring a smile to The Queen’s face and light up her eyes like horses, and her love of all things horses has shown through at the 70th anniversary of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

Dressed in her favoured attire of a brightly coloured dress coat and matching hat, Her Majesty stood out against the misty backdrop of Hyde Park in London in vibrant pink, accessorised with a three-strand pearl necklace and simple pearl studs, and a floral adornment on her hat.

As Captain General of the King’s Troop, she rode alongside, standing up through the sunroof of a Range Rover, and thoroughly inspected the unit which plays an important role at major state and royal events, famed for firing gun salutes on royal anniversaries and state occasions. In fact, one of her own former race horses has joined the troop!

Having had an affinity with horses since early childhood, with her very first pony gifted to her at the tender age of four by her father, King George VI, they have remained a passion of The Queen ever since. 

Although she doesn’t gamble herself, she has owned many successful thoroughbred race horses, and loves to watch the races. She also hosts the Royal Windsor Horse Show every year in Windsor Park.
