‘Sick’ Clive Palmer’s shock court appearance

As you would know, Clive Palmer has been the subject of an ongoing legal case over the collapse of his company Queensland Nickel.

He was due to appear in court yesterday to give evidence over the whereabouts of his nephew Clive Mensink.

But it turns out he was sick, and when he appeared in court today, it wasn’t the Clive Palmer many have become accustomed to seeing.

The Australian reports that Clive Palmer arrived at the Federal Court in Brisbane today with a breathing apparatus. 

He reportedly spent time laying on a couch outside the courtroom with an oxygen mask on.

But inside the court room, there were further details about his ‘illness’.

According to The Australian, Palmer’s barrister asked that Palmer be allowed to give evidence without swearing an oath because he took ‘a morphine-based pain drug’ that was “affecting his memory”.

But Justice John Dowsett refused.

Palmer was described as “shaky” in the witness box, where he sat with a sick bag and oxygen mask.

Outside the court he told reporters that sick citizens shouldn’t be “dragged into court to give evidence”.

“This is not about Queensland Nickel, this is whether a citizen under medication, which are narcotics, which require to be signed off in an act, should be dragged into court to give evidence and whether he can give evidence, because I can’t remember my Amex pin number for example,” he said.

“This is just a confirmation that this is a political witch-hunt.”
