Saucy surgery goes terribly wrong in fatal world first

If you’ve ever considered going under the knife for a cosmetic enhancement, you may think twice after reading this. 

A 30-year-old Swedish man has died while undergoing an penile elongation and girth enhancement procedure. 

He is the only person in the world to die from this type of surgery according to the Journal of Forensic Sciences. 

The man had no prior medical history beyond mild asthma but went into cardiac arrest towards the end of the surgery and despite doctors attempts to revive the patient as he was rushed to an emergency hospital, he died shortly after. 

The penile procedure the man elected to do takes fat cells from other parts of the body using liposuction and injects them into the penis, according to the journal. 

The patient’s fat was removed from his abdomen to be injected into his penis before he tragically died. 

Apparently the elective surgery is quite common but researchers have warned there are always risks but they’ve always referred to cases where patients have died from having fat injected into a person’s buttock – not the penis.

“This is the first described case where a seemingly simple and safe procedure of a penis enlargement by autologous fat transfer caused sudden death in a healthy young man,” the journal states.

“Perhaps the risk of fat embolisation is higher when pre-traumatised tissue is subjected to fat injection, like in this case, where a penis elongation by loosening of a penile ligament was performed before the fat injection.”

 According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, around 8,400 penis enlargement surgeries are performed around the world, despite its risks.
