Queen breaks royal tradition just for Meghan Markle

It's the first time The Queen has altered the Christmas tradition.

The Royal Family is known for keeping to traditions but it looks like Queen Elizabeth II is willing to make an exception when it comes to Meghan Markle.

In a royal first, the 36-year-old actress will join Prince Harry and his family as they celebrate Christmas this year.

The Times reports that Markle will become the first royal fiancée to celebrate the holidays with the royals before officially becoming one herself.

According to the report, the family will open presents with Her Royal Highness on December 24 as part of their Christmas Eve celebration.

“Now that they are engaged it was unthinkable that they would be apart for Christmas,” a source and friend of Harry explained to The Times.

“The royal family have fully welcomed Meghan into the fold.”

Other traditions over the festive period include a fancy black-tie dinner, a lavish English breakfast and even pheasant shooting.

They also attend St Mary Magdalene Church on the estate and have a family Christmas lunch at Sandringham House.

It is also predicted that The Queen will use her traditional Christmas broadcast to congratulate her grandson and Markle on their engagement.

While others including the Duchess of Cambridge weren’t invited before they were married, it is believed that Prince Harry asked the Queen personally to let his bride-to-be included in the festivities.

It has been suggested that the newly-engaged couple will join Queen Elizabeth for three days over the festive period, before heading to America for the New Year.

They will travel to California to celebrate with Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland.
