Anticipation has been running high all day with hope the royal family would reveal the name of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s new son. But instead, the Palace made a different announcement on Thursday, revealing that Prince William will serve as best man at his brother’s wedding next month.
Kensington Palace said in a series of tweets that Prince Harry has asked his big brother to stand by his side on his special day, and William was “very much looking forward” to fulfilling the honour.
“Prince Harry has asked his brother The Duke of Cambridge to be his Best Man at his wedding to Ms. Meghan Markle,” the statement read.

“The Duke of Cambridge is honoured to have been asked, and is very much looking forward to supporting his brother at St George’s Chapel.”
Harry served as best man at William’s wedding to Catherine in 2011, with the cheeky red-headed royal keeping his brother calm with a few jokes and quips while they waited for Catherine to arrive at the Abbey.

Harry and William were incredibly close as children, especially after the loss of their mother, and have remained so during adulthood. The pair live just metres from each other at Kensington Palace and regularly tease each other in public with brotherly digs at everything from parenthood, to their love lives and William’s thinning hair.

Harry is set to marry American actress Meghan Markle on May 19 at St George’s chapel at Windsor Castle. The pair met in 2016 and fell in love quickly after a secret getaway to Botswana. After announcing their engagement in November last year, the couple sat down for their first interview together where Harry said “beautiful” Meghan “just tripped and fell into my life”.
Harry revealed he proposed to his bride-to-be during a “standard, typical night for us” at his home in Kensington Palace as the couple were making roast chicken.
“It was just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet, and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee,” Meghan told the BBC.
Prince Harry said: “She didn’t even let me finish. She said ‘Can I say yes’.
“Then there were hugs and I had the ring in my finger.
“I said ‘Can I give you the ring?’. She said: ‘Oh, yes, the ring’. It was a really nice moment. Just the two of us.”
