As one of the most popular and social royals to date, it’s no surprise Prince Harry has a long line of superstar performers vying for a place at his wedding reception.

And with some of the most famous faces across the globe having performed for him at various charity events in the past, he won’t be short of options.

The Prince will marry American actress Meghan Markle next spring, but exact details of the reception have so far remained hidden.

However, from Rod Stewart and Coldplay, to Elton John – who famously sang ‘Candle In The Wind’ at his mother Princess Diana’s funeral – there  is plenty of talk over who will serenade the guests.

Here we look at some of the top names in the running to perform on the big day:

Last year, Coldplay headlined a concert at Kensington Palace for Harry’s charity, Sentebale, and heartwarming photos of the event showed the Prince greeting lead singer Chris Martin on stage.

Meanwhile in 2007, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Pharrell Williams and Duran Duran played at a concert to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Princess Diana’s death.

Rod Stewart could by vying for a place.

Elton John is close to the family’s heart after performing at Diana’s funeral, so he’s no doubt expected to appear at the wedding next year, too.

Harry recently asked both Bruce Springsteen and Bryan Adams to sing at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games in September, and even gave them a bow following the performance.

And there are plenty more big names hoping to get an invite.

Ed Sheeran was recently awarded an MBE by Prince Charles, and when asked by reporters if he’s like to perform at the wedding, he replied: “Yeah, why not?”

Sheeran is good friends with Harry’s cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie so has plenty of practice mingling with the royal family.

But he may have competition from his close friend and fellow English singer Sam Smith.

“I’m obsessed. I want to sing at the wedding,” Smith told The Sun. “Oh my God I’d love to, it would be a dream.”

Elsewhere, popular artist Stormzy recently told the crowd at the MOBO Awards that he would like to perform “a little acoustic for young Harry”, and the Prince is also good friends with both The Killers and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl.

Grohl recently told the BBC: “He is the sweetest, he’s a great guy.”

Pop singer Ellie Goulding was the big name act at Prince William’s wedding in 2011, performing a moving rendition of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ for the couple. The emotional song is said to be Catherine’s favourite.

She’s previously been pictured laughing and joking round with the groom-to-be at a music festival in London.

Meghan, meanwhile, is a big fan of American singer Janelle Monáe, who could be asked to serenade the couple, too.
